In this 'age of migration’, the reasons for mobility are diverse, and resulting in complex flows which include refugees, asylum seekers, labour migrants, children, internally displaced persons and victims of trafficking. The impact of climate change, protracted conflict, demographic pressures, urbanization and a transforming world economy are driving movement against a socio-political background of growing hostility. Human rights abuses against refugees and migrants are widespread and severe. The vulnerability and risks faced by men, women and especially children on the move call out for understanding and action.
